Editor's Corner
Been a long time since I did some updating. I just haven't
been on-line much the past few months. Now that the weather is changing I assume that I'll
be on a lot more, so I'll probably be updating more.
Let's see, what's new? Well, The Pittsburgh Steelers sure
are disappointing this season. The team has some talent, but at some key positons, they
just are below average. You know, there was a reason why Tommy Maddox never did much in
the NFL prior to his coming to Pittsburgh. I wish I could say there was a solution at QB
for the Steelers, but Charlie Batch and Brian St. Pierre aren't the answers. Big mistake
in drafting Alonzo Jackson in the 2nd round when Chris Simms was available. The Steelers,
should they have a high pick in the draft, need to consider Eli Manning.
"The Bus" Jerome Bettis and Amos Zeroue are good
RB's, but the line has had some problems and injuries are a big part in that. I don't
think the Steelers need to address the RB position to early in the draft next year because
I like the back-ups.
Hines Ward has proven this year that he should be considered
among the elite NFL WR's. Plaxico Burress needs to shut his mouth and catch the football.
Although he'd like to think that he is in the same class as T.O. and Randy Moss, he has
shown that he isn't there yet. Antwaan Randle-El is proving to be a great weapon as the
3rd reciever. The challenge for Pittsburgh, however, is to figure out how to use route
running ability to its advantage. Just watch Randle-El, he runs precise routes everytime
he is on the field.
Defensively, I think this is the Steelers Achille's Heel.
The DB's are just awful. Had the Steelers made a play for Dre Bly like I wanted them to in
free agency, I think they'd be okay because they could have moved Scott to FS and a
Washington-Townsend platoon at the other CB position would have been serviceable. Rookie
Troy Polamalu, Mike Logan, Brent Alexander, and special teams standout Chris Hope also
would have been a serviceable SS group. I think its time for Coach Cowher and Lewis to
take a look at Polamalu and Hope as the S's of the future. In next year's draft and free
agency, the Steelers must address the CB position.
The LB's are solid, though they are getting up there in age,
ie Jason Gildon. Joey Porter is one of the best in the NFL and Kendrell Bell is getting
back to his rookie year form, slowly but surely. Since the Steelers drafted Zo in the
second round, they should put him in there and see what he can do rather than making him
inactive every game.
The DL is solid but a quick End is still missing. The way
the Steelers run their 3-4 scheme doesn't provide for much more than occupying the OL for
the ends, but I think that a true talent on the outside would help the scheme immensely.
All in all, the Steelers are just a big disappointment.
The Sherwin Williams Fantasy Football League is back and I'm
just getting ready to make a late season push as I struggled getting through the bye weeks
to put a full team effort together. I feel that I have one of the strongest rosters in the
league and that I can seriously contend for a top 3 position before the end of the year.
Theo Yakoumas' team had such a good first half and is solid enough that he is going to be
tough to catch.
